Gabi`s Vintage

Do you ever have a moment where something or someone just grabs your attention? You do, don’t you! It could be a newspaper article or a person walking past you on the street. I had that moment last week , but mine…was on an average day as I scrolled through my instagram feed.

A couple of messages and an email later, here we are. Meet Gabi!

Hello! Introduce yourself for my readers.

Hi. My name is Gabrielle Jones. Im twenty three years old. I am based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Thank you for sharing your time with me.

You’re welcome. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me!

How did you get into vintage clothing?

I’ve been surrounded by vintage for as long as I can remember! My grandma was a huge part of my childhood and collected vintage.  I remember seeing 1940s dresses hanging up in her playroom (a bedroom she filled with toys for the grandkids) and just dreaming of wearing them one day!

Once I got a little bit older, I was just drawn to whatever clothes I had in my closet, which ended up being a lot of grandma’s pieces! I wore this one red and purple Young Edwardian top all the time in high school without ever knowing that it was vintage! Now that I’m on a journey to wear a vintage piece every day for a year and develop my own personal style, I find myself very drawn to 1960s mod styles and 1970s hippie styles.

Do you have a favourite piece and why?

I think my favourite piece is my grandma’s crocheted jacket. My great, great, great Aunt Stella actually crocheted it in the 1940s and then gifted it to my grandma as a high school graduation gift! I think the history is beautiful and the piece is just a very beautifully structured, versatile garment that I throw over anything to feel a little more vintage!
Where do you source your clothes from?

Almost everything comes from previous family members! We’ve always been bargain shoppers so they’ve found them at garage sales, thrift stores, and gifts from friends! My grandma and I love to stop in estate sales and vintage shops if we find them, but truth be told, I actually don’t do that much shopping these days!

What else would you say to anyone doubting “vintage”?
Thanks for taking the time to learn a little bit about me! I’d highly encourage anyone who feels funny wearing vintage/non-conventional pieces out, to give it a shot! You might surprise yourself with how great you feel.
