Young Giants

Dad and I were out one day and found ourselves driving past the Sunshine Coast airport. Now, I am honed in to most things and brewery signs are one of them; especially when it’s a ‘new’ brewery sign! So, what do you do when you see a new brewery sign? You follow the directions!

We stumbled onto “Young Giants Brewery.” This one is a baby in the terms of local breweries, having been open less than a year.

First impressions

Like many breweries dad and I have visited, this one is holed up in an industrial estate, unit 6, 13 Runway Drive, Marcoola, to be exact. It’s easily located, right by the airport and there is plenty of space to park. When you walk in it’s open, clean and tall. It has a very industrial yet cozy feel about it. The seating is varied. High seating, bench seating and stools; all of which give a varied option for the visitor. There is space to suit everyone as well as a playroom for the younger visitor! The décor is a mural that is large and imposing, yet perfect for the space.

Crowd and Clientele

The brewery attracts everyone. Couples, friends, dads and daughters like us and a healthy dose of families. There is something for everyone.

The Staff

The staff are fantastic. Young Giants Brewing was founded by Matt Ford and Chris Geddes, two local enthusiasts driven by their love for craft beer and community engagement. With nearly twenty years of brewing experience, Ford blends traditional methods with innovative techniques. Geddes, passionate about fostering community bonds, strives to establish an inviting environment where families, friends, and visitors can come together and savor the offerings of Sunshine Coast’s vibrant brewery scene. Together, they have established more than just a brewery; they’ve created a destination that celebrates local flavours and creativity.

The other great part about the staff interaction is that they’ll say  hello and join you at the table. On our last visit, conversation freely flowed carrying on effortlessly from the visit prior.

Drink Selection & Price

There’s a diverse selection of beverages available, boasting ABV percentages that span from low to high. Remember to bring a designated driver along. For the driver in your group, we offer a range of soft drinks or refreshing cold water. As for the avid drinker in your group, choices abound from lager and alcoholic ginger beer to IPA, NEIPA, and even a ‘lagerita’ (a frozen lager concoction). There truly is something for everyone. The prices are comparable with other local breweries and  very reasonable.

On a personal note, as a moderate drinker, my preference leans toward coffee, and only one brewery here serves that. Unfortunately, this particular spot doesn’t offer coffee.

Food pairing

The brewery has a kitchen that’s open regularly that at the moment, serves pizza. Whether a greater menu will transpire in time is something we wait to see. I haven’t had pizza yet so cannot give you a review on their standard or whether they’re worth the price. That’s coming later.

Special Features

As you walk in the brewery, your eye is drawn to the racks to your right. Branded t-shirts are ready for the visitor to purchase. They are available in variety of sizes.

Overall….

Overall, this charming little brewery is well worth a visit. It’s still in its infancy compared to others in the area, but that’s part of its appeal. Its unique styling and smaller property size set it apart, giving it a distinct character. What truly makes “Young Giants” special, though, is the personal touch—you’re not just another customer here. On your return visit, you’re remembered, and that kind of warmth and familiarity is something you don’t always find at larger breweries.
