Movie Recommendations

Movies and music are my life. I enjoy both with a passion. The music is the first thing to go on when I get up, when I get in and so on. I usually try and find a movie to watch a week. If it is a group of them such as Back to the Futures, Indiana Jones, Jason Bournes and so on, it turns into one a night.

In the land of movies, we are no longer resigned to simply seeing them at the cinema. As our entertainment industry closed  indefinitely due to the CoronaVirus, streaming services are a blessing.

Nowadays we have our own big screens at home. Tvs are getting larger.  Sound systems more effective and the wants and needs of the audience more demanding and extreme. We also have iPads and more streaming services than we can shake a stick at!

So if you are stuck at home and don’t know what to watch, here are my quarantine movie night recommendations.  I cant mention everything that comes to mind, I’d be here all day but here are just some.

THE INVISIBLE MAN

Elisabeth Moss`s latest film is has been  released for streaming and purchase. Treat yourself and watch it at night – alone – I dare you!

KNIVES OUT

Highly recommend it! Loaded with stars, great one liners and Daniel Craigs “southern accent”.

LAST CHRISTMAS

Emilia Clarke at her finest in a movie that plays to her strengths. If you loved her in Me Before You, you will adore this movie.

ME BEFORE YOU

Watch the movie, read the book. JoJo Moyes was definitely onto a winner with this one!

BACK TO THE FUTURE MOVIES

Of course we all know that Marty McFly went forward to 2015 in the film. Five years past that now, but still good old fashioned fun!

INDIANA JONES MOVIES

Harrison Ford and that hat. Sean Connery as his Dad. John Hurt and Ray Winston to name but a few of the sidekicks over the years.

BOURNE MOVIES

Refreshing to see a film where the “hero” is not perfect and looks like he has been beaten up at the end of a fight scene.

A FEW GOOD MEN

Originally as a play and written by the formidable Aaron Sorkin. A list superstars bring this play to the screen. Refreshing to see no love scenes, I mean it, no love scenes at all!!!

TOP GUN

It wouldn’t be a good movie list without the 1986 classic.  “I feel the need, the need for speed” – the line was uttered millions of times as this one made Tom Cruises career reach new heights.

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

If you have never seen this, please treat yourself to a cinematic classic. This was extremely underrated when first released and is now considered a cult classic.

MASTER AND COMMANDER

Another that was underrated at the time but has come to be a classic.

WAR FILMS

Too many to list but Saving Private Ryan, Hacksaw Ridge, We were Soldiers, Dunkirk, 1917, Windtalkers, and many more .

TV BOX SETS

Treat yourself to a watch of any of these and know that viewing pleasure is awaiting you:

  • Band of Brothers
  • The West Wing
  • Gavin and Stacey
  • Only Fools and Horses
  • BlackAdder
  • Fawlty towers
  • Monty Python & the flying circus
  • Porridge
  • Open all hours
  • House
  • Friends

Treat yourself to some good movies, have fun!!
